They were looking for good time, and this place had no shortage. It was the best shortcut to the college dorms and girls always used this pathway, they had gotten a couple “dates” from this area before. It was only a matter of time before a girl came again, after all it was time to either go out and party or come back to get some sleep.
Ray walked towards the dorms, seeing the three guys and silently cursing. She had seen the men take women before, had comforted some of those girls the morning after when they curled up against her side sobbing. Ray had seen this too many times for it to be unusual behavior. In her mind, men were scum and raping women was the only way they could get off. My Childhood GuardianOnce upon a time I was a child, like everyone else has been once, and like everyone else, I had a teddy bear that I slept with, enveloped in my arms. Mom said he would protect me from the monsters that wanted to disturb my peaceful rest, when I was very very little I believe her but as I grew older, I merely slept with my teddy bear because - though I didn’t believe in monsters - he made me feel safe.
But the teddy bear wasn’t just a stuffed toy that kept me warm at night, he was my guardian. Children are the innocent things of this world, capable of seeing the truth while the adults see the lie, capable of moving between worlds while adults remain firmly frozen.
That’s why children have nightmares, not because of something we are afraid of or an over active imagination but because monsters from other worlds want to steal the children away. The hot, meaty breath stirring hair on a child’s neck, a clawed finger pulling back the covers.
